  8. 08Control after disciplineRoughly 1990 onward / France and BritainThe enclosures Foucault described were already dissolving as he wrote, and what replaced them does not enclose you at all, it modulates you continuously.Funder: Not a funded programme. University scholarship, written after the institutions it describes had begun to dissolve.
  9. 09Institutions as manufacturers of persons1939 to 1977 / North America and BritainAn organization does not merely process people, it strips a self on admission and issues a new one, and you can test this against any institution you have been inside.Funder: UNKNOWN. The research document records no funder for Goffman's fieldwork. Illich funded his own centre with language-course fees, which is why he could write what he wrote.
